The characters are all over the place, most of the story is "filler" and the plot leaves much to be desired. To me it just seemed like the author did fairly well with the first book (I enjoyed it) and tried (poorly) to pull off a second from the momentum. Granted, Ultraviolet is a YA book so the writing isn't too deep or complex but this.? Ugh! I was trying to figure out what the point of the book was. I am honestly surprised that the 2 books were written by the same author. There are flashbacks from the Ultraviolet that seem off in left field. This is its own story written from Tori's perspective and very poorly written. Review 1: When I saw there was a Book 2 to Ultraviolet I thought it was a continuation of the Alison/Sabastian/Tori story. ![]() ![]() One may quickly suspect Spengler is not quite so radical as this at first sounds. The World as History, on Spengler’s analysis, gives us the world of “becoming,” the world of time. The two ‘worlds’ are different the World as Nature and its scientific, mathematical models give us the world of space, the “become,” that which is. To this he opposes a different view – World as History. ![]() Spengler rejects this thesis and calls that entire tradition the perspective of World as Nature. Within our tradition of Western culture we have come to see of the world through science, and the methods of the sciences reveal to us what we tend to accept as the world as it is. ![]() Oswald Spengler is calling for a revision of our understanding of the world. ![]() This book is monumental, with ambitions far beyond what is normally called “history.” Rather, it is both an epistemology and metaphysics.

Black Hole by Charles BurnsĮssentially, Black Hole is about a group of teens in the Seattle suburbs during the mid-1970s. ![]() Let me back up and try to give you a passable summary. Yet it is absolutely a must-read litmus test for your opinions on sexuality, medicine, infectious disease, love, and the suburban teen experience. It is almost a Rorschach ink blot where it means different things to everyone. This is partially because Burns’ novel, now considered a landmark classic in the history of modern-day graphic novels and comics, truly defies categorization. While I was reading the novel, I fluctuated between so many emotions-wonder, boredom, disgust, fascination, repulsion, transcendence. It seems impossible to write a book review of Charles Burns’ Black Hole, a graphic novel compendium of a comics series from 1995-2005. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bound in original grey cloth with orange lettering to spine, in publisher's unclipped pictorial dustjacket. ![]() Author's first book, SCARCE in DUSTJACKET. And on the other hand, when we have a weak acid Salt that gets formed takes the nature of the strong parent. But you know, if a strong acid is reacting with a weak base, then in that case the They both have canceledĮach other's effect. So what I mean is that when a strong acid and a strong base react, the salt that gets formed is neutral because they both have equally neutralized each other's effect. ![]() But see, one thing to note over here is that HCl, this is a strong acid, and NaOH, this is a strong base. Water it does not increase the concentration of either H+ or OH- and that's why we call this as a neutral salt. They go under nucleation reaction, and a salt and water is formed, right? It's moments like that which show why Spielberg is a masterful director. There's no reason why I should be tense and worried, but I was so caught up in the moment that I genuinely was. I've seen this movie before and know he survives, it's only 15 minutes in the movie so logically he'd have to survive, and he's got sequels with an older Indy so he must survive. During the opening scene with Indy's famous escape from the temple and the giant boulder, I was genuinely tensed up and worried for him. There is such a spirit of fun and adventure to this whole movie that, besides the snakes, it's a real joy to watch. That's a genre we don't really see a lot anymore, and it's a real shame. Not an action film (though there is action in it) but an adventure film. ![]() ![]() Beyond that though, it's a shame it took me so long to give this film another look, because it's really a perfect adventure film. It's the snakes really that did it, and godamn that snake scene near the end is still difficult for me to watch. For me, that was Raiders of the Lost Ark (and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but that's another story). Everyone has that movie that traumatized them as a child but didn't really affect anyone else. ![]() ![]() ![]() I walked out of my office and found a few of my men standing in the hallway, lined up and on guard.
